Getting There

Check out Lake Mackenzie where you can take a dip in the shimmery blue waters and sunbathe in the white sand. Fun fact: the lake is made purely from rainwater, making it a beloved natural wonder.
You must also visit the Maheno shipwreck that dates back to 1935 and is best seen at low tide. And you mustn’t miss Indian Head, a rugged headland, where you can spot turtles, sharks, and manta rays from the very top.
When you’re there, check out the island’s most popular swimming spot, at the Champagne Pools. As the name suggests, the waves turn frothy when they crash into the rocks which creates a cool effect.
Once you’ve dried off, take advantage of your 4WD and drive through the sub-tropical rainforest that stretches across the island. And don’t skip the 75 Mile Beach, a sandy highway on the eastern side that offers stunning scenic views of the Island.
Another unique feature of Island Australia is the abundance of wild dingoes.
Don’t worry, these critters avoid humans but it’s important to take precautions. For instance, always clean up after cooking and if you’re threatened by one, stand still with your arms crossed. Slowly step back but never run as you’ll startle it.
Wildlife lovers should take a guided night-time walk. Here, you can spot sugar gliders leaping between the trees and frogs ribbitting at the edge of the lake.
